N2 - An important challenge for a student learning a second language is the development of phonological awareness (PA) of the new language. PA is essential to develop the correct articulation of sounds different from those of their native language. In particular, French is one of the languages that presents the greatest challenges for Spanish-speaking learners. For example, while in Spanish there are only five vowel sounds, there are nineteen in French, that can be derived from the combination of letters. In that sense, there are multiple applications that are developed to help language learners to improve their pronunciation. In this paper, the results of the documentary search to find the applications that support learners to improve their pronunciation, and the challenges that have been partially addressed, or are not yet reported, are discussed. Among the challenges encountered is the limited or poorly documented development of applications aimed improve the pronunciation in a foreign language, using PA activities at the phonemic level and limited evaluation strategies that do not consider the PA in general. In particular, the lack of software for the development of French pronunciation supported by the articulatory method in the development of the PA at the phonemic level is emphasized, and it is proposed as a transdisciplinary line of research and development.
