Resumen
Motivation is an internal condition to maintain learning behaviors, which drive, sustain and guide the behavior of students towards learning and the achievement of their academic goals. This research sought to determine the relationship between motivation and academic performance of Civil Engineering students at the National University of Trujillo. The methodology of the study had a quantitative approach, based on a non-experimental-correlational design. The sample consisted of 47 students of the first cycle of the Civil Engineering course, enrolled in the Personal Development course. The survey technique was used to measure the motivation variable. On the other hand, for the academic performance variable, the gra-de register of the academic semester was used. As a result, it was found that all the students were highly motivated. In the academic performance, 63.8% of the students presented an Advanced Level and 36.2% an Achieved Level. Therefore, it is determined that there is a very strong positive relationship for intrinsic motivation and academic performance (r =0.817) and a considerable positive relationship between extrinsic motivation and academic performance (r =0.563).
